BUDDHIST STUDIES GROUP

The study of the Zen Teachings of Master Lin Chi with Barry Sensei will take place starting on November 13th.  See the calendar page for the latest info on dates.  For the classes to be held a minimum of five (5) sign ups are required.

COMMITTEE ON ENGAGED BUDDHISM

An effort has unfolded in Three Treasures Zen Community with a focus on Engaged Buddhism.  A committee, headed by Steve Konshin Gelb, is scheduled to meet, following service, at the home of Aishi and Jian Sarian.  See the calendar page for the latest info.  To date, there have been handouts on related topics and our recent Council topic was "What is Service and what does it look like?" All ideas are welcome.  Come one, come all.

SERVICE AT THE SARIANS

Each third Tuesday of the month, TTZC will host a service following one period of sitting at Aishi and Jian’s home.  Sitting will begin at 6:30pm. This will not only offer a second service per month for those interested, but will also provide additional experience with the various positions in the service ceremony.  See the calendar page for specific dates.

MEMBERSHIP DUES

As TTZC is a small community, it is imperative that members keep their dues payments current and up to date.  Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated.

DANA FOR THE TEACHERS

A dana basket will be set up in sesshin for the Roshi and Senseis.  Expressing appreciation for the Dharma, and the long years and difficult practice teachers undergo to bring it to their students, is a widely accepted practice in Buddhism.
It is important for students to realize that Nicolee, who is self-employed, must work more before and after sesshin to make up the difference for her lost income.  Barry must rearrange his work schedule and can lose significant pay to teach in sesshin.  They all do this in order to make available the intensive training that is absolutely necessary to deepen students’ understanding. For this reason, students are encouraged to make a donation of $30-50+ for their primary teacher at that sesshin, and an appropriately equivalent donation for any secondary senseis that may participate and teach. There may be others who can afford more, or some who cannot afford that much, so please offer what you can.

SESSHIN FEE POLICY

To assist in preparation for sesshin, and to be fiscally responsible, the Board of Directors has established the following policy:
1.    Participants who register seven days or more prior to sesshin will be entitled to an early registration daily fee of $36/member or $42/non-member.  Registration is defined as full payment received by the Program Coordinator seven days prior to the start of sesshin, or payment postmarked seven days prior to the start of sesshin.
2.    Participants who register less than seven days before sesshin begins will pay a daily fee of $42/member or $48/non-member.  Payment must be received prior to attendance; on-site registration will no be available.
3.    Participants will receive a full refund for cancellations made seven days or more before sesshin begins; participants who cancel less than seven days prior to the beginning of sesshin will receive a refund, less 20% of their registration fee.
4.    Participants who arrive at sesshin late, or leave early without at least seven days notice before sesshin begins will not receive a refund for days missed.

SESSHIN CLEANUP

The teachers and the Board of TTZC would like to request that those who participate on the last full day of sesshin spend the night and take part in the closing and clean up of sesshin the next morning.  Also, it is requested that those members who are commuting to sesshin return on the last day to join the other sesshin participants and assist in clean up of HVZC. And we’d also be grateful to any non-participants one who are willing and able to lend a hand. Since there’s a lot of work to do, and as we ‘strive to leave no trace’, participating in these efforts is a great way to be of service to TTZC and to HVZC.

LIBRARY (RP)

The following are the times when books, tapes, and videos in the (RP) library can be checked out.  Mondays from 6-6:30pm, and again following zazen at 8:15-8:45pm unless the room is in use for daisan.   Other times by appointment only.

TTZC E-MAIL GROUP

To participate in our community by connecting and helping each other via e-mail, join our e-mail group set up on www.egroups.com/groups/ttzc.  Participate in a discussion group about our community or an informal book club discussion, and much more.  It's free and if you need any help signing up, please contact Susan Quinn at susanquinn@earthlink.net

STUDENT TEACHER BOOKLET

As a reminder to all of our readers, Nicolee Roshi’s booklet describing the pitfalls and opportunities of the student-teacher relationship, including student and/or teacher attractions, is invaluable for new and old students alike and is available for $5 at RP.

NEW WAY TO DONATE AND HONOR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES

TTZC now accepts donations in honor of, or in memory of people.  A donation to support TTZC is a way of doing two good deeds—supporting the sangha and showing your appreciation for someone.  For a donation of $10 or more a postcard will be sent to your honoree announcing your gift.  If you prefer, donations can also be made anonymously.
